Now located in Brighton, I work in a shared studio called Mews Art Studio with several other ceramic artists and fine artists. My love of pottery began after leaving school in Macduff, Scotland and being accepted to study at Aberdeen Art School where I found ceramics an easy choice to specialise in and left with a Post Diploma in Ceramics and Sculpture after 5 years of study.
I went to Greece for a summer break after gaining my qualification with the idea to spend a year out there exploring and learning the language. I didn't manage to return to Britain until 2002, many, many years later!......Life got in the way I guess and my love of travelling , windsurfing , nature, languages and working as a holiday representative, teaching English and then running my own beach bar in Vassiliki, Lefkas, a beautiful Island in the Ionion Sea. People ask why I left ...but I really hungered to get back to working with clay and moved to Brighton to see how it goes.
When I returned I studied Horticulture and Garden Design and worked for several years designing and building gardens in the Brighton area with a few handy talented landscapers......But I also managed to secure a place in Mews Art Studio to get my hands back into clay and slowly more and more of my time is based there. My work is mainly in stoneware as I like the earthiness and strength of it. I really enjoy making outdoor garden pots and little sculptural birds etc. However I have been dabbling in making indoor functional tableware and using many different techniques from slab, press mould to throwing.
